I'm a Canadian surfer living and teaching English at a local college here in Salalah, Oman since 2005, and recently founded the Salalah Surfing Association in an effort to promote surfing for people and families living in the Salalah region. The SSA website is at http://www.salalahsurfingassociation.blogspot.com. I found out on my last surf trip to Peru that I have quite an adversity to cold water, so Salalah is perfect for me, warm water and easy going forgiving waves that pretty much accomodate longboarders and shortboarders alike, I am attempting to wean myself off my longboard and learn shortboarding...old habits die hard.
